Congratulations to the biofuels research group for successful synthesis and characterization of three biodiesels made from coconut oil, generic vegetable oil, and olive oil. Oils were refluxed with methanol under basic conditions with sodium carbonate, and the resulting mixture was washed with warm water, dried over anhydrous magnesium sulfate, and characterized via 1H NMR spectra.
